Marleen is a dynamic and results-driven leader whose work is dedicated to improving health outcomes for women and girls globally. She employs data-driven strategies to drive transformative change and fosters collaboration to design innovative, context-specific policy and financing solutions.
With extensive leadership, management, and advisory experience, she has spearheaded impactful public health initiatives across South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. She brings expertise in gender, equity, sexual & reproductive health, maternal health, health systems and health governance.
Previously, Marleen worked at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation where she oversaw the foundation’s maternal, newborn and child health policy advocacy portfolio. As Program Director for the Evidence for Action (E4A) programme she supported sub-national governments, health workers and advocates to use data to identify and address health challenges that affect them most. She holds an MSc in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and an MSc in Political Science from the VU University of Amsterdam.
